Religion In the News This Week

Great news! The LDS church is losing members rapidly! Time to pull out the booze and celebrate!

In other news: religious leader rapes a teenager.

Why are religious people so fucked up?

I mean really! Isn't the whole idea of religion supposed to make people better? Then why do we always hear in the news about some religious leader who can't keep his hands out of young children's underwear?

Religion is primitive. We need to move beyond it.

And in other news:

http://fox13now.com/2012/03/20/lds-missionary-in-critical-condition-after-hit-by-bus-in-brazil/

An LDS missionary serving in Brazil is hit by a bus and is in critical condition. I wonder why his garments didn't save him?...

"If people are leaving, it's really a mark that we need to get deeper into our faith."

Brilliant.

It's actually a mark that maybe there's something fundamentally flawed about the religion.

"...told her he received a revelation from God telling him to have sex with her so she would be 'blessed.'"

Hmmm....where have I heard this before....

In the first video it mentioned something about the church correcting doctrine in manuals and on the internet to help bring people back? I guess the doctrine isn't dumbed up enough as it is. Pretty soon the lessons will be coming from preschool cardboard books with large pop out pictures. That should really keep people interested in Sunday School...

And a classic example of Mormonism came from the woman who said something to the effect of, "When people are prosperous, they turn away from god."

Yep, blame it on the people. The church is perfect.

Well it probably makes better news then some atheist kiddy fiddling. The atheist part would just not make it into the news. The media love a good church molestation story.

That being said there does seem to be some sort of “greater being” that pushes those in positions of power within the church to touch what they should not more often than in the real world. Maybe it has something to do with their assumed power or they feel excused by their closeness to god? Or perhaps if they are deluded enough to believe then the paedophilia somehow is just another step into delusion.

Hatman,

With all due respect, I have to slightly disagree with you. I believe our "Christian nation" would just love a good story about an atheist child molester. It would give them all sorts of reasons to point fingers and claim that is what atheism does to people. I just find it odd that atheists are so rarely in the news for crimes (in fact, none that I can even recall). Maybe it's because they are actually good people?!?!

I'm going to put the LDS news on Purgatory. It's too good not to share!

Glad you liked it, Andy, and thanks for sharing!

Religious people are fucked up because they feel that they don't have the power to control their own actions. They absolve themselves of any responsibility that normal people have and whenever they have a wicked thought, they feel that they are powerless to avoid acting on it.

Religion makes people lazy and wicked. They feel that they can do anything they want, so long as they repent in time.

Too RIGHT they are losing followers-I PUT UP with being LIED TO,MANIPULATED and generally made to feel awfully GUILTY for two years...My partner of eight years died last November and yes,the church was v supportive.HOWEVER,this did NOT stop them WHINING about me smoking, drinking and taking valium just to COPE.HONESTLY-You would have thought I was on CRACK or something-The mishies actually came and poked around, looking for pills, weed, alchohol etc even looking in my FRIDGE,at such an AWFUL time I really did not appreciate their WHINGING about the Word of Wisdom, pressure tactics and general INVASION of my privacy...It put me RIGHT OFF I can tell you...NOT surprised their losing members.Lets face it,not many of us can AFFORD the tithing, offerings etc....Not to MENTION the expense of Temple trips and conferences we are bullied into attending at this time of deep, global recession....

Well, it was fun while it lasted. Some of the stuff you have posted is, well, to be quite honest with you, uh, fucked up. I thought you were ok there for a while, but now, well, uh, you're just a dick. When you do die, hopefully many mnay years from now, you will find that life does go on, it doesn't just end in that cold dark box. And you will get to start all over again.
