Whenever I hear this phrase, I see in my imagination some dude in a fight with a cactus. He's kicking the shit out of it, but each time he kicks it, he only does more damage to himself, which is what this symbolic phrase is trying to convey.
If you fight against god, then you're only hurting yourself.
I recently had to endure (remember that term "endure"?) a sacrament meeting for the purpose of attending the blessing of a new born child in my extended family. Usually the blessing is over pretty quickly and then you have to sit through the rest of the meeting.
Well, this one speaker said something that I found to be absolutely hilarious.
He talked about the commandment from downtown SLC to keep the wife at home and have the father bring in all the money. He shared how, at one point, they were both working and didn't know how they would survive by having her quit her job (a problem that many faithful LDS people face). He even admitted that he had a problem with this and didn't see how it could be accomplished.
After giving the matter a lot of thought, he eventually realized that he was kicking against the pricks. This is a commandment from god and I must find a way to comply.
The church leaders give a commandment and he was kicking against the pricks... I don't know if anyone else noticed it, but he was calling the church leaders pricks! Not on purpose of course, but it just hit me as funny that of all the words that could be used to represent the gospel, the chosen word is "pricks".
So whenever I disobey their prophetic council, I am kicking against the pricks who run this crazy church!

Why don't you just leave mormons alone? What business is it of yours to destory other people's religion. You should try spreading peace and love rather than destroying others faith and religion. Get a life and a new hobby. If you understood who and what Jesus Christ really is then you'd realize that what you're doing isn't Christlike. Grow up an stop being so predjuice.

I could turn around and ask you the very same questions... why don't you just leave me alone? What business is it of yours if I destroy other people's religion?
I'm not trying to be Christlike; I don't believe in Christ. The Mormon church is not true and it stole my identity and the first 30 years of my life. It's a cult disguised as a religion and all it does is suppress people's minds.
Do you think that's all I do all day is sit here in front of my computer and write about how much I hate Mormons? Actually, I've never said I hate Mormons; I just despise their dishonest leaders. I have several other things I do that keep me busy.
Prejudice? I've been called a lot of things, but never that. How am I prejudice? Where have I stated that a Mormon should be denied a right just because they are Mormon? On the contrary, Mormons are prejudice. They are racist, sexist, and homophobic. I have stated often, and if you'd read a little then you would know, that if a person is happy being Mormon, then I am happy for them. My purpose here is just to tell the other side and let the person make an informed, rather than ignorant, decision.
Tell you what, I'll stop what I'm doing as soon as the church stops sending out thousands of missionaries who go around "destroying other people's religion." I've written about that before... how the church wants to change the whole world, but gets so offended if anyone raises a voice against them.
Got to go for now, but how about refuting my message next time rather than throwing out personal attacks? We actually might accomplish something that way...
I'm a Christian, I believe Mormons follow false doctrines and yes, are part of a cult, and I have to say that I quite enjoyed the irony and laughed at the joke. :)
