This blog documents my life in the Mormon church, my escape from it, and my transition into atheism. This is a place for ex-Mormons to share their thoughts and experiences, to discuss current Mormon issues, and for those people in the church who may be doubting their faith or feeling that something is not quite right. Comments are welcome from all points of view.

The Problem... is a Godless Society
Whoever created this graphic was an idiot.
They claim that the godless are to blame for all the crimes and bad things that happen. But did they stop to consider that:
Timothy McVeigh was a Roman Catholic?
9-11 terrorists were acting out of devotion to Allah? While not the Christian god, it's still a god.
Adolf Hitler's Religious Views The Nazis killed millions of Jews under Hitler's direction because they were "fighting for the work of the Lord"?
The god of the Bible himself is guilty for the deaths of thousands of people.
Clearly the problem is the non-religious!

The problem is PORN.
Wow, Shiva, I couldn't disagree with you more.
Please explain how porn is related to mass shootings...
That's like saying cleaning your room causes your hair to fall out... What do the two even remotely have to do with each other?
Damn! I've been cleaning my room all my life and now you are telling me that is why I'm going bald now!! Argh, where were you 30 years ago! :-)
Don't worry, you can just get a priesthood blessing and have your hair restored!
Who is going to hold God guilty? Can man take God to court and put Him on trial for the flood or the destruction of Sodom and that other nearby city.
Only someone who sins can be found guilty.
God will take you to court. You will never take Him.
"Only someone who sins can be found guilty."
Killing is a sin.
God kills.
Therefore, god is a sinner.
Any questions?
BTW, I'm not afraid of your imaginary friend!
Your arguments are really bad. You should feel bad. That goes to all of you, OP especially. I pine for the days when atheism offered at least somewhat intelligent arguments from figures like Russell and Nietzsche.
Would you care to expound?
So I am unintelligent because I don't believe in fairy tales. Or let me rephrase.. I am unintelligent because I don't believe in outlandish stories that have no evidence of ever happening.
Bring me an intelligent argument supporting religion and I will be all ears. If you have none, which you don't, then don't come in here and start pointing fingers at athesists when you have NOTHING to back up your own claims.
"Would you care to expound?"
Sure
"So I am unintelligent because I don't believe in fairy tales."
Never said that. Another example of your arguments being really bad. What I implied is that your arguments lack intelligent scrutiny, being based on poor logic and selective reliance.
"Or let me rephrase.. I am unintelligent because I don't believe in outlandish stories that have no evidence of ever happening."
First, your lack of belief isn't the issue. Your argument is. Do try to stay on target.
As for the "outlandish stories" you speak of, we would first have to determine which story we are talking about. My guess, though, is that claiming that there is "absolutely no evidence" is an exaggeration.
"Bring me an intelligent argument supporting religion and I will be all ears. If you have none, which you don't, then don't come in here and start pointing fingers at athesists when you have NOTHING to back up your own claims."
I could present a handful of arguments that are taken seriously even by academic philosophers without faith. The real question is whether or not you are able to see and admit that such arguments are intelligent.
For now I will offer the 5 ways of St. Thomas Aquinas:

See article 3
"They claim that the godless are to blame for all the crimes and bad things that happen."
I actually agree with you that this is a poor argument.
"Timothy McVeigh was a Roman Catholic?"
And if he had adhered to the tenets of his faith he never would have committed the atrocity he did.
Adolf Hitler's Religious Views The Nazis killed millions of Jews under Hitler's direction because they were "fighting for the work of the Lord"?
It was propaganda which began from following (incorrectly I might add)Nietzsche's idea of the Ubermensch, which saw Judeo Christian morality as weakness. There is a good argument to be made that it was turning from actual Christian principles that allowed Hitler's Reich to be as successful as it was.
Further:
"According to Max Domarus Hitler promoted the idea of God as the creator of Germany, but Hitler "was not a Christian in any accepted meaning of that word."[52] Domarus also points out that Hitler did not believe in organized religion and did not see himself as a religious reformer.[52] According to historian Laurence Rees, "Hitler did not believe in the afterlife, but he did believe he would have a life after death because of what he had achieved."[53] Historian Richard Overy maintains that Hitler was not a "practising Christian," nor was he a "thorough atheist."[54] According to Robert S. Wistrich Hitler thought Christianity was finished but he did not want any direct confrontation for strategic reasons.[55] Samuel Koehne, a Research Fellow at the Alfred Deakin Research Institute, working on the official Nazi views on religion, answers the question Was Hitler a Christian? thus: "Emphatically not, if we consider Christianity in its traditional or orthodox form: Jesus as the son of God, dying for the redemption of the sins of all humankind. It is a nonsense to state that Hitler (or any of the Nazis) adhered to Christianity of this form."[56] Koehne says Hitler was probably not an atheist and refers to the fact that recent works have asserted that he was a deist.[56] Richard Evans concluded his statements on Hitler's religious views by suggesting that the gap between Hitler's public and private pronouncements was due to a desire not to cause a quarrel with the churches that might undermine national unity."
"The god of the Bible himself is guilty for the deaths of thousands of people."Just out of curiosity, what is the moral standard to which you hold God accountable? On what basis do you have the authority to accuse God (if He exists)of wrong doing?
Clearly the problem is the non-religious!False! the problem is a lack of ethical education :)
