Why Mormons Are Okay with the Church Making Lots of Money...

...and gaining lots of power.

It's really quite simple.  It's the kingdom of god.  How can it not be successful?  To the average member, the fact that the LDS corporation makes billions of dollars a year is only further evidence of it's truthfulness.

If it actually was the kingdom of god, we would expect to see it grow financially and even politically.  This is why most members are also perfectly okay with it when the church gets involved in political matters.  The members believe that by influencing government, the will of god for our day can be made manifest.

Members of the church do not seem to mind that the LDS church spent 3 billion dollars on City Creek Mall, just across the street from Temple Square.  They are okay with it because the 'kingdom of god on earth' has provided a safe mall, where inappropriate items cannot be bought or sold and all the shops are closed on Sunday.

Mormons make no secret about the fact that they want money.  Money is power, and the more power god's kingdom has, the better.  I would not be surprised at all to learn that the LDS church heavily funded the presidential campaign of Mitt Romney.  I would be shocked if they did not!

So Mormons are okay with the church influencing the government.  This is why the state laws of Utah closely reflect the standards of the church.  Alcohol is heavily moderated.  Decent strip clubs do not exist.  And while the non-Mormons in Utah view this as the church forcing their views on everyone, the Mormons in Utah view it as a good thing by removing temptations from society.  They believe they are having a positive influence on their little corner of the world.

Naturally, the rest of the world just looks at Utah Mormons and shakes their collective heads in embarrasment.

Salt Lake City is literally viewed as the kingdom of god on earth.  The more uncleanliness they can remove from Zion, the more pleased god will be.  It is okay for Mormons to seek money and power because it's all in the hands of god.

Let's hope and prey that there is NEVER a Mormon in the White House!  While the common members of the church have good intentions by letting the Mormon church get control of the government, it is not good!  Church and state were never meant to be married.  Unfortunately, in Utah, there is practically no difference.

Money cannot buy positive influence. If the church really wanted to make a difference and show the world that they are as Christlike as they say, then the $$ that went to build that mall should have been spent SAVING LIVES in a 3rd world country. But doing that would get no return on their investment- I guess...

I find it so funny that the members always brag about how much the church gives to relief efforts when they, in fact, give nothing. The money used is from the fast offerings fund, which is donated entirely by the members. LDS, Inc. gives nothing to charity from their own pockets. Nothing! They make enough money annually to relieve suffering worldwide, but they don't. Shameful. If Jesus was real, he'd whip all of those hyprocrites who run around using his name to grind the faces of the poor!

I mind what you are saying. I know everyone has an opinion, so I will share mine. I am mormon. I know it, I live it, I love it. I know that Christ lived on earth to let us be resurected and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints in the only true church. God answers prayers and he knows each of us and loves each of us. I do not know why you left the mormon church, nor do I want to make you feel wrong. God has done so much for us and the LEAST we can do is pay tithing. (that is 10% of the money you have earned) That money goes to missionary funds, building new churches or temples, and much more that can help us and anyone who has interest in the church, benefit.

Sophie,

Faith is not knowledge. You don't "know" that Christ lived on the earth because you never saw him and only read about him in a very controversial and contradictory book. It's called faith because it's not knowledge. The definition of faith is a belief in something which has no evidence. Therefore, you might FEEL that the church is true, but you don't KNOW, because the whole idea of religion is that it has to be taken on faith. If you want to "know" something, then read a text book. If you want to feel good, then read the scriptures. You can't combine religion with knowledge. It like trying to combine light and dark. It just can't be done. Personally, I prefer to be on the side that uses facts to backup my knowledge rather than good feelings. So if you want to keep giving your 10% to a greedy corporation, go right ahead. But "god" doesn't need your money. Jesus taught to give all your personal belongings to the poor, not to a filthy-rich corporation.

For goodness sakes weston, you shouldn't talk about sophie like that. She is entitled to her opinions and we should respect her for that not put her down. ;-)

In case you hadn't noticed, Weston likes to pop in and out of here and fling a few insults in passing. Like that's doing anything to help his cause...

Mormons make up the anti-christ. Their women started to have sex with politicians enpowering them with evil desires. They have done so because the media where attacking their open sexual practices that they used to do as if acting like a God of the old times with multiple wives. Now they are seeking protection from catholic unions that try to bless them while they do heavy political corruption. Black people of the Eagle Hack team are heavily involved into this evil scheme.
